How the digital newspapers were created:
The Legislative Library of Manitoba holds copies of these community newspapers on microfilm. We hired a company to convert the newspapers from microfilm to PDF. When converted, each page or two-page spread of the newspaper was a separate PDF file. We combined the individual PDF files together to re-create each newspaper issue, so that you can browse the newspaper collection by date and read individual issues. We then transferred the newspaper issues to this website — Allard Library’s Community Connection.
The digital newspaper files were processed using optical character recognition (OCR), which converts the image of text into a machine-readable text format. Use the search feature at the top of each newspaper page for keyword searching.
